Procedures for Completing the FHI
- Observe the student in each of the three chosen environmental settings throughout the day.
- Pay close attention to how the student responds to stimuli and observe the student's biobehavioral state, especially if they are severely, multiply impaired.
- Make the observations in context. For example, pay attention to the noise level in:
- the classroom during activity time;
- the classroom during rest time or a quiet time activity;
- the cafeteria during their lunchtime;
- the speech therapy room during a one-to-one session, if they receive such services;
- the gym during Physical Eduation or Adapted Physical Education;
