Sound Levels

Environmental Condition / Background Noise

Sound Level Meter

Use a sound level meter to determine the intensity level of the background noise in the environment where the child is evaluated/observed.

Once the intensity level is determined, record the numerical code for the range of intensity for that environment using the Explanation of Codes Table on page two of the protocol. Evaluate the student in three different environmental conditions that have varying levels of background noise (i.e. an environment with average noise, 51-60 dB, one that is very noisy, 81-100 dB, and an excessively noisy environment, >100 dB).
