Based on the information from interviews and from evaluator's observations, the evaluator will choose three environments that are familiar to the student. (The same environments can be used in both the Environments Sounds and Speech Sounds subsections). The evaluator will use the sound level meter to determine the background noise level in these various environments. Remember that the background noise can vary somewhat from day to day within the same situation, so it is important to use the sound level meter on the day of evaluation in order to record accurate information about the environmental noise.
